Someone call Borders...

...and tell them they might have just stopped my heart. Look what Sue just found (with a very loud "Squee" attached, I might add):

It's the most heavily pre-ordered book in the 'kids' category at Borders! YOW! And that, for the moment, it is being more heavily ordered than Beedle at Borders is mind-blowing! Of course, this goes without saying, but not a single person on earth who owns my book won't also be buying Beedle (as they should, it's for a good cause and promises to be an incredible gift for a Potter fan - I'm dying to get my copy) - still, this was too fun of a thrill not to share with you all. Let's not have crazy delusions, the book is not actually outpacing Harry Potter: Still, seeing that list in that order caused Sue to scream and everyone else in my apartment to make very loud noises. I just stared at it, which for me is a startling reaction to anything.

I know I may be saying this often lately, and maybe for a long time to come, but I am truly enjoying every message, email, comment, that gets sent my way from those of you who have finished reading, are in the middle of reading, can't wait to read, etc. I may never get to respond to all of this but please know each one of them brightens my day. Thank you!

Hey Melissa, Potter fan extraordinaire, your book is brilliant. I read it a few months ago, as a review copy was slipped to me by a dear friend who works at a children's magazine... She slid it to me across the counter with such a gleam in her eye, I'll never forget that! I read it from cover to cover that night, just like all the Potter books before that, and I have to tell you, it was just as thrilling, just in a different way. Reliving the excitement of the saga with you was pure joy, my friend, and I'm buying my copy tomorrow, and it will sit right next to the rest of the Potters on my shelf! Much love and gratitude!

AHH! So I just finished your book! IT'S AMAZING!! I went throught every emoution possible! I cried, I laughed, I got pissed at Warner Bro.. It felt like when you reread a Harry Potter book and your on the edge of seat in anticapation about whats going to happen next, even though you already know the book by heart. While reading your book i was so in 'Harry Potter mode' that when it was time to go to school I could think of nothing else to wear then my Hogwarts zip-up with my Gryffindor t-shirt under it (and came very close to wearing my tie, sweatervest, cloak, and wand but I knew I would get sent home for it). But I just wanted to tell you thanks, for writing the book! It's wonderful! Your wonderful! Cheers!

Congratulations. Looking forward to reading your book. Well done. Mine's on order and has been ever since I knew it was coming out. Congratulations again.

I saw that a few days ago and was excited myself. I am so happy for you. Congratulations! I went to Barnes & Nobles to get my book today. They couldn't find were they put it. They had 15 copies sitting under a table. I made sure it was displayed front and center when I left (at least for a little while). The girl at the store said she was going to give it to a few friends. Getting ready to start it now. Congrats again!

Wow Melissa... just wow. That is freaking amazing!! Congratulations, you totally deserve it! And again, it's you, Obama, and McCain on the same page!

I don't have my book yet, because I'm kind of poor at the moment, but I'm DYING to read it!! I can't wait, I've heard nothing but amazing things!

Again, congrats!! *hugs*

i preordered your book from borders and got 6 days in advance! then i went to borders last night and saw right there on the young adult section 4 copies of harry a history. congratulations on writing such an awesome book!

i agree with sue. "squee" is all that's necessary here. well done!

Yay Melissa! Congratulations!

And I understand why your book "beats" Beedle the Bard. At least I know one reason. I believe fans, who are involved in the fandom, who are buying copies of Beedle the Bard, do just like me. I tell a lot of people to buy your book. Like my parents. I don't see my dad very often and he has now pre-ordered Harry, a History. I tell them to read you book so that they'll understand me. So that they'll understand what I'm involved in, the fandom of Harry Potter. So that they'll understand this world that's been created.

I haven't read your book myself, but I can't wait! :D Maybe it won't be as good as I have anticipated, but I don't believe that. I trust you. Melissa Anelli, you are absolutely awesome!!!

That is brilliant, Melissa, truly truly brilliant!!

Has anyone checked Amazon's pre-orders?

Still no sign of my copy... (checks email again, just in case) :-(

I am so excited. I voted this morning and then went to Borders and bought my book. I can't wait to start reading!

I'm going to Barnes and Noble when my mom gets back from voting. I can't wait to read it.

Melissa, finished the book Saturday night. Thank you SO much for letting me geek out with you. Your story kept reminding me of mine-some moments that I'd just misplaced (NOT forgotten!) and hadn't thought about for years came crashing back. Things like my first reading and immediate obsessions, the shut-up-and-read parties my sister and I hosted every book thereafter (and how they gradually grew in size), seeing the first movie and how freakin' magical it was (no pun intended, it really was). Just...THANKS. Between the HP love, the love of musicals, and the terrific sense of humor, you are definitely someone I think is wicked cool.

I also finished the book and loved it. Parts made me cry, parts made me laugh out loud, and all of it made me remember why I love HP so much. Thank you for your words.

oO looks like Jos got some competition! =P

haha Congratulations!!
I love the book it's just... sooo amazing.

im going to be making a video for your youtube challenge. once i get to the point where i can get my thoughts straight and actually speak.
that would be good =D

Melissa,

Just finished reading your book in line to vote this morning. It was brilliant. Thanks for the memories and for helping me remember my own Potter experiences as I read. Congrats on a job well done and you deserve your top spot.

Job well done.

Loved the book Melissa, pity I'm in Nebraska & can't get your autograph on it. Not to worry, I treasure it anyway.
Congratulations on being on top of the list!

ABC :)
The Nebraska Witch

Awesome!!!!! I just noticed its #135 on amazon! There's a lot of books on amazon, probably more than 135. Love you!
P.S. Hedwig died.

Woooooo go you ! Well deserved :D Can't wait to get my copy, have to wait 15 days yet! Gonna be awesome =]

i just saw the same thing and came over here to tell you. congrats, im just waiting for my borders to open to go get it and shall be reading it for the remander of the day.

Congratulations Melissa!

And well deserved. I finished reading my (preordered) book the other day. Definitely see myself in there in a few places.

Hurray for Melissa!

Hip, hip...

OMT

Nothing more than you deserve. Enjoy!!

Melissa,

Just wanted to let you know I just finished reading your book at 4:00 AM and loved every minute of it! I have followed PotterCast since the very beginning, but it was nice to read about things that I didn't even know happened in the fandom. Congratulations again.

Thats great news. Though, I feel a little uneasy that its outselling Beedle the Bard in the Kid's Category!?!. Not sure if I can get my head around that statistic, I mean its saying kids want to read a non-fiction book more than a new JK Rowling book. "Mummy, I want Harry A history which analyses the roll on affects on society and the Harry Potter fandom", I swear there is a drastic genetic evolution happening. kids are far too clever today!

Oh and on Amazon, the book's rating is still a maximum 5 stars. Not one single person has voted less than 5.

You, my dear friend, are a rockstar. I wish I was celebrating with you in NYC, but just know you have your biggest cheerleader across the country pimping you out and doing whatever I can to make this even more insane than it has already become.

I won't stop until you're on the NYT bestseller list, but it's not like you need my help. You're pwning (the first time I've ever allowed myself to use that term. Ever.) the world all on your own.

<3

Melissa,
Borders does indeed love you. Borders has told booksellers to recommend "Harry, a History" with reserves of "Tales of Beedle the Bard" and as an add-on when Beedle is on sale. Also, "Harry" is supposed to be on the Top Kids Books table at the front of Borders stores.

To anyone who can't find the book in your local store, ask your friendly Borders or Waldenbooks booksellers to order the book for you. It is available from our warehouses and only takes about a week. We can also ship it to your house for free! Today, I ordered an additional five copies for my store and I will make sure it has prime placement and is available for all Harry Potter fans.

Love,
Your Borders Bookseller

When will it be published in melboune im, dying to read it

Hi Melissa, I've always enjoyed your work at Leaky and on PotterCast, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on your book. It is/was a fun and enjoyable read. It brought back many happy memories. I'm happy for your success and a bit jealous too. :-) I hope you continue to have much success and I look forward to reading more of your work.

Hey Melissa, congratulations! I'm nearly done with reading the book and I've loved it! It has made me feel very nostalgic and sad; but only because I missed out on the fandom during the release of the books. I've been checking out Leaky for many years, but I only really began to dabble my toes in the fandom properly about a year ago, after Book 7. That's when I began to get obsessed with theories and details, and I discovered Pottercast after you interviewed Jo. I now love it and wait eagerly for each new episode - even getting mild withdrawal symptoms when it doesn't turn up when I expect it to! Thanks to you and all at Leaky for the great work you do, and thanks for writing this book - it's a great review of the phenomenon, and manages to tell your personal story along with the wider story of the whole thing.

Wow, Melissa, congratulations!! That is so incredible. I can't wait to get my copy; Amazon says it should be here on Wednesday and I'm going crazy with the wait. I've been looking forward to this book for SO long!!

Melissa, from one fan to another I AM SO DAMN PROUD OF YOU! I got my copy Sunday, (Bookstore in Oklahoma had it out early AWESOME!) and have just finished page 176 and your first meeting with Jo after OOTP. I cannot imagine what that was like. I cried for you as I read it.
This is good. This is real good. Congrats on your sales.

Melissa I look forward to purchasing your book . I plan on reading while waiting in line to vote for our next ministry of magic....oops...president of the united states!

I'm so excited! I'm picking up my copy first thing tomorrow morning and not putting it down until I finish it! (Not including the drive home. That would not be safe.)

This makes me even more excited for the release. Since I didn't pre-order (I know, crazy, right?) I've been waiting anxiously for tomorrow. Is the book going to be released at all major book stores? My town's pretty small and the biggest book store we have is a Hastings.

Melissa, Couldn't happen to a more genuine person. Much deserved success to you! The book was great!

Yay that's awesome!
I got your book in the mail today and I am loving it so far! I'm less than 80 pages in and I've already cried like three times!

Congratulations on everything. You've accomplished so much!

I just got the book today and read about 1/2 of it in one sit-down. This will go down as one of the biggest services to the fandom, EVER!

You deserve it more than anyone melissa.

Now just can't wait to get my hands on this book as much as beedle! Still haven't seen it in any Irish bookstores! :(

Um Melissa? *looks sheepish* I don't plan to buy Beedle the Bard... *listens to the dead silence on the internet before beginning to duck flying tomatoes* But I went to the bookstore the other night specifically to buy your book...

That is just so great. Awesomepants, Melissa, awesomepants. One thing, though - I am a little surprised that your book has been categorized as "kids". I mean, it's about children's literature, but... Of course, no one's complaining. AND ZOMG YOU'RE OUTSELLING BEEDLE THE BEARD!!! I mean, Bard.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! Congratulations, Melissa! Well deserved, for sure, I absolutely loved your book! Enjoy the ride, I am sure it will be wild!

Squee! Awesome, Melissa!

That is so awesome!! Congradulations. I am LOVING your book. Thanks for writing it.

Congratulations! I just started the book and I can't put it down. By the way, you're rapidly closing in on the top 100 for Amazon, so keep an eye out.

Oh my gosh Melissa!!! I had a happy moment for you, too!!! I saw it and was like "YES!" This is so great, I can't wait to read it and I'm sooo happy for you. Hope these last four hours aren't as nerve-wracking(don't laugh - I can't spell at all and I don't know if that's right) as I'm imagining they are for you. No matter what, remember that this completely awesome fandom is behind you in whatever you do, and we all wish you luck and best wishes. Congratulations on everything.
Love, and respect to you!

Melissa, I just finished your wonderful book! I felt I was right there with you! Can't wait to have you sign it :)

That is so exciting! I can NOT wait to read this book, it will be so fricken amazing!

Melissa, this is awesome!! You totally deserve it! *hugs*
